Rare royal portraits dazzle the nation Posted On 19 October 2020

Queen Elizabeth II poses for a rare and beautiful official portrait, which was captured last year at Windsor Castle by royal photographer Chris Jackson, and which has recently been released to the nation.

The portrait shows Her Majesty, 94 years old, wearing blue sapphire jewellery and a matching tiara, along with a couple of pieces of jewellery which were gifted to her from her father, King George VI, for her wedding to the Duke of Edinburgh in 1947. The jewels for the necklace and earrings date back to the mid-19th century.

She is dressed in an ivory ensemble and wearing Canadian insignia on her left shoulder, as Sovereign of the Order of Canada and the Order of Military Merit. The Order of Canada is said to be the country’s highest civilian honour.

It comes as Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry have together posed for a stunning new black-and-white portrait, taken by Matt Sayles. The image is to promote the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s upcoming TIME100 Talk, which is scheduled for later this month.

In the photograph, Meghan wears an Alexander McQueen suit, and a very interesting gold watch similar to the late Princess Diana’s Cartier Tank Française watch. Meghan dazzles us with a beautiful two-tone version of the watch.

At her wedding, Meghan wore a ring that once belonged to Princess Diana, and her engagement ring also contains two smaller stones from Diana’s collection.

Meghan said in a BBC interview at the time: “Everything about Harry’s thoughtfulness and the inclusion of [Princess Diana’s stones] and obviously not being able to meet his mom, it’s so important to me to know that she’s a part of this with us.”
